Kirby Corporation conducts operations in two business segments:
Marine Transportation and Distribution and Services.
Through the Marine Transportation segment, Kirby operates as the premier tank barge operator in the United States, transporting bulk liquid products throughout the Mississippi River System, on the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway, and along all three U.S. Coasts. Kirby’s service includes the transporting of petrochemicals, black oil, refined petroleum products and agricultural chemical products by tank barge. Kirby also owns and operates four offshore barge and tugboat units transporting dry-bulk commodities in United States coastwise trade.
In the Distribution and Services segment, Kirby is a leading distributor and services provider to industrial markets, offering customers a single source for after-market service and parts for engines, transmissions, reduction gears, and related equipment used in oilfield services, marine, power generation, on-highway, and other industrial applications. In the oil and gas markets, Kirby serves as a distributor and service provider for diesel engines, transmissions, and pumps, and manufactures and remanufactures oilfield service equipment, including pressure pumping units. The Company also manufactures power generation equipment, specialized electrical distribution and control equipment, high capacity energy storage/battery systems, and rail car movers. In marine and power generation applications, Kirby provides after-market service for medium-speed and high-speed diesel engines, reduction gears and ancillary products. Kirby also sells and rents equipment including generators, and rents compressors, high capacity lift trucks, and refrigeration trailers for use in a variety of industrial markets.
Kirby is a “One-Stop Shop” for customers, providing a critical link in customers’ supply chains, transporting and transferring bulk liquid products that keep plants and refineries operating efficiently.
